AMSTERDAM - Netherland
With the laundry issue solved, and our intestines' schedule fully understood, we pack the tent, and in order to be closer to Amsterdam, we come back to the campsite that we had excluded due to the price. Thinking about it, we could figure out before that the capital would have been more expensive than the rest of the country. We put up the tent again (30 minutes), find out that the metro stops right in front of the campsite, and we decide to venture towards the city center with Pollo determined to chart the route.
Today I had to lead the way.
We went to visit the old church and the new one (where the coronations take place).
We had to wait until 1pm to find a bakery, and hadn’t eaten since last night, it was tough. Today we had nothing to have breakfast with, and we didn’t pass by any supermarket while we were going to the new campsite. Good news is that in a supermarket downtown we’ve found new flavours of chips. We bought some with salt, rosemary and garlic.
In the afternoon we went looking for Anne Frank’s house, only to discover that it’s not free and it’s not included in the Amsterdam Card. So we went ahead and saw the Westerkerk. We also visited two houses from the 1700s and then we went looking for the Diamond Amsterdam Center. Thanks to the Amsterdam Card, you could witness the cutting of diamonds. At the shop, the clerk sent us back to the factory and he gave us directions… Too bad that the route was full of coffeeshops but no sign of the factory. Eventually we had a tour of the city and planned tomorrow’s tour de force.
We try to assist at the diamond cutting demonstration. The clerk explains to us the way to get there: “It’s simple. You go up to the end of the street, turn left, cross the bridge and you’re there, it’s very easy, it’s very simple”. We walked around the red light district for two hours… We didn’t find it.
