HAARLEM - Netherland

The romantic idea of the adventure with the tent has now vanished. Living in a whirlwind of wet shoes, muddy socks, and in a space of about 43 sq feet for not even 5ft height, certainly doesn't help. Instead, we develop the skill to quickly understand what we need, especially in the middle of the night, with the only toilet tens of feet away from the warmth of the sleeping bag..

This morning, the prince here didn’t want to wake up. I didn’t know whether to be quiet and wait, or make some “involuntary” noise. Finally, while I was planning, Bruttone woke up. The morning was spent packing the tent and visiting the town of Haarlem. This town is very nice, but apart from the church of Sant. Bade-Grote Kerk (which as I understand it, is the same thing, while Bruttone is still looking for the latter), there isn’t much to do. The church had a beautiful central nave with wooden rowed vaults and great, comfy, toilets.

Going to Edam (the cheese city) we found a campsite, but they wanted 18 euros per night and it was right by the sea, so there would probably be a lot of wind. We then decided to move to Haam where our green guidebook marked another campsite. Following the directions, we arrived at a campsite for elders (but for 11.5 euros). On the way we came across a place where there were five working mills which were not used as pumps, but to make cheese, grind wheat, etc.

We also had the opportunity to see how the wooden shoes are made and find out that they cost around 60 euros (we were thinking about buying them to go to the bathroom at night).
