NIJMEGEN - Netherland

We are now at the end of this adventure. Tiredness is felt, as well as the desire of having a proper bed and a roof over the head. It's probably because of these inner needs that we'll be convinced to spend the last funds of the budget to sleep in a ``Trekkenschut``, a bungalow in the campsite that actually costs just a few euros more than to pitch a tent.

Waking up in the Trekkenschut is amazing. We’re warm and dry. We missed having breakfast in a warm place and on an actual table. We then headed to the “Airborne Arnhem” museum. The museum is about the ll World War’s battle that was fought between Arnhem and Osterrbech, in which the Allies tried to have a clear path to Germany, and end the war. Most of the soldiers involved lost their lives in this battle. The museum was big and well organized. It consists of four floors, three above ground and one below. In the underground level there was “The experience”. It consisted of a path in which they reconstructed moments of the battle.

It was a bit crude, so I did the first room and went back.

The whole town was decorated for a commemoration. The Arnhem battle took place in September, so veterans are expected this weekend.

After eating in our favorite hotel/restaurant (the car), we went back to Utrecht to see if we could find the 100 tulip bulbs. Since we didn’t have any luck with that, we decided to move and visit Nijmegen. Pretty little town, but apart from the church, it was nothing special. We stopped for a drink, I was intrigued by the Kernmelk but I found out that it was nothing different from the yogurt that I prepare for myself back home.

We are in the Trekkenschut again tonight. Too bad that the heating appliance didn’t work at first, so Bruttone tried to fix it, while we were also heating up some water to put in the basins to warm the room. Now we are waiting for the wire to finish winding up, to re-connect it to the power and see if it has actually been fixed.

BRUTTONE’S NOTES:

Arriving at the campsite, we ask the nice little lady at the reception (130kg- 280lbs for sure) where we can eat typical Dutch food.

Answer: “There is a place where you can eat good, really good, the best in the area… It’s on the corner at the end of the street, really nice. (23 seconds pause) …Ah no, it burned down…”
